Abbey of Lavino

Full restoration of an ancient abbey in collaboration with the Righi Engineering Firm in Casalecchio di Reno – 2011

Major restoration works

  • Consolidation of foundations
  • Sand blasting and cleaning of the brick facades and wooden floors
  • Inserting structural steel beams
  • New steel stairs
  • New wood floors
  • Rebuilding of wooden roof

Location: Monte San Pietro – Appennino Bolognese

Type: Sandstone abbey and annexed buildings

Philosophy of restoration works: The abbey underwent restoration and structural consolidation works. The roof had been damaged for several years thus ruining the interior of the abbey and leading to the collapse of portions of the roof, weakening the perimeter walls. Consolidation of the foundations was necessarily the first step, such as indenting walls and restoring the indoor. Only after consolidating the supporting structures we could restore the facades, floors and frescoes.

Conditions: completely renovated in 2011

Access: driveway

Curiosity: The Abbey of Saints Fabian and Sebastian is one of the oldest and important monuments of the Lavino Valley, located in a geographically strategic position made it a welcoming place for travelers from the start (VIII-IX century).
